The 1980 Flash Gordon is coming out on DVD on August 7th. It hasn’t been available since the early days of the digital video revolution.

“What do you mean, ‘Flash Gordon approaching’?” I love that. "Flash, I love you, but we only have 14 hours to save the Earth!" Non sequitor much, Dale?

Hopefully, Howard the Duck and the Kevin Kline/Linda Ronstadt Pirates of Penzance will follow soon after. I have no information on these; I’m just hopeful.

Also, I’m as giddy as an 8-year old on a Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs high about the new live-action Transformers movie coming out next week. I can’t explain why. It’s a Michael Bay flick, so I know the story’s gonna suck. But… giant space robots that turn into trucks and planes and beat the snot out of each other! Optimus Prime lives! And they got the original voice actors for both Prime and Megatron! And they incorporated the old transforming sound effect into the new one! Autobots waging battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons!

It’s like Jesus is coming to visit, and he’s bringing me a pony.

Funny thing is, I never bought the toys when I was a kid, on account of I was dead broke, but last night I picked up Optimus, Megs, Bumblebee, and Barricade. The two leaders needed sidekicks. And I want to get more, just because I can. So, those cartoons being disguised ads to sell toys eventually worked.
