What Was I Thinking?

Anarchy

A spate of school closings is sweeping across north Alabama right now, based on the threat that, at some point in the next 24 hours, an inch of snow may fall. Later, there will be runs on every grocery store for loaves of milk and jugs of bread--wait, reverse that, thank you--as the panic-stricken masses stock up for the impending blizzard which threatens to seal everyone in their homes for as much as a day.

The people where I live are out of their minds.

People everywhere are out of their minds. It just takes the thought of something they have no control over entering their lives that panics them . At that point, they swarm grocery stores for food stuffs they will proably never eat; then they converge on the local K-mart where they buy up all the batteries and candles in sight. And oh yeah, let's not forget filling the gas tank. All of this is just so they'll have something to do to keep their minds off whatever impending doom is about to befall them. Don't worry, they all go back to being just normally crazy as soon as the snow melts.
Hope you got plenty of eggs and bread while you were out. T

I agree....I live in a place where snow storms are a weekly occurance and it still inspires runs on the grocery store.

you're telling me. i lived in colorado for seven years, and massachusetts for three--let's talk about literal snow burial and hypothermia. then i moved to a prominent northwestern city where a half inch of snowfall in town is the maximum we'll ever see. the number of traffic accidents increase exponentially within hours of this light precipitation. the most amazing thing is the number of people who cannot navigate steep hills in new snow--even though they have spent many thousands of dollars on sports-utility vehicles that are supposed to be able to roll over four foot boulders. apparently they haven't been able to find the all-wheel drive switches under their dashboards that would instantly activate their vehicle's ability to not slide down a slippery hill. it would be laughable if it wasn't so maddening. it's kind of like going hunting with a city slicker armed with an AR14 who whines that his weapon must be broken because he turned the safety on by accident.

I'm in Atlanta and we get the same thing here, but they usually wait until the snow starts to fall before closing school. I just want to know what it is about bad weather that makes everyone want french toast?
