What Was I Thinking?

Let's see, where have I

Let's see, where have I been?

Tonight, I wrote a sorta-cellular-automaton-thingy program to scatter colored blocks on the screen and then randomly try to move them around to get the colors grouped together. It kinda works, but it's slow. The process is; I'm getting 120 frames a second.

I spent most of the weekend playing Return to Wolfenstein, which I bought because the price finally came down and I'm a cheap git, and Grand Theft Auto 3, which I bought because it got smashing reviews everywhere I looked and I once had the idea for a game about being a criminal that I never developed so I wanted to see how close they were to my vision. Pretty close, except I had more breaking and entering. And the graphics kick my ass.

Last week, I played a lot of Everquest, which anyone who plays it can tell you is a time leech of epic proportions.

I thought about my book for a while. I'm at a loss as to where to send them after they destroy their first planet. All I know is that they'll want to get back to their lives already in progress. I may have to actually write some of it just to learn enough about the characters to figure out what they would do next. Does that make any sense at all?

I heard Wizards of the Coast was having a "Send in your Setting" contest, so I considered knocking together this idea I've had for a while now and sending it in. But I'm not going to. I'm good with the high concept, but terrible with the detail stuff like people and names and such. You can say, "Transdimensional dragons gave up their dominion of the world out of boredom and now toy with humanity et al from behind the scenes via shapeshifting," but that don't tell ya how many taverns there are or if Inga the Barmaid is actually heir to the throne.

Oh, and I went to see "Scooby Doo." I am apparently the audience they were targeting, despite not being 7 years old.

Anything I did prior to what has been described is a grey blur. I'm sure there was a fair amount of eating and sleeping involved.

In other words, nothing to write home page about, as it were.

Hi, Mom!
