I have been utterly unable to identify a single new space combat flight simulator in any of the computer game stores here in town. It's all real time strategy out there nowadays, which is fine if you're into that sort of thing. But I'm not.
Obviously, the reason is that there's no market for space shoot-em-ups right now. But I can't figure out why that is. They're fun. They're exciting. You don't have to devote an entire day to it if you don't want to. Is this the lull after a market glut? Did they become passe' and unfashionable while I wasn't paying attention? Is world-conquering resource-management just that much easier to write? Maybe the various companies believe first-person shooters satisfy the need for you-are-there stuff-blowing-up action.
Oh, well. I've never had my finger on the pulse of...well, anything, to be honest. I'm like a one-man anti-focus group. A blur group, if you will. I like what other people don't, and don't what other people do. I'm the fifth dentist who doesn't recommend Trident gum. If only I could harness my power for good, I could probably make a buck off it.
