Projects - Madam Chow's Kitchen

Converted the delightful Madam Chow's Kitchen over to Wordpress from Blogspot, and gave it a nice oriental redesign in the process.

mzkitchen.gif

Pop over and visit...and pick up some lovely recipes while you're there. We'll be in the kitchen ourselves, making these delicious-looking Lime Cookies!

Launched the weblog design for author Paul Jaminet, The Relationship Economist.

Project - Understanding the Market/Capire il Mercato

A new project from one of our very first clients, Understanding the Market is a Wordpress powered weblog that is also simultaneously posted in Italian.

No fancy tricks were used, just a separate install of Italian-language WP and a nifty plugin called More Fields to add some custom fields to the entry posting area.

Project - Movie Food

In one of the cooler concepts we've ever seen (and talk about niche-blogging!), we launched the weblog for Movie-Food.com

movie-food.gif

These folks take dishes from movies, or *ideas* for dishes from movies, and turn them into reality. Ever want to try the dish from Ratatouille? They've got it. It's rather sparsely populated at this point, being a new site, but we expect great and inventive things from them!

Projects - What Was I Thinking?

Striking a blow for nepotism, today we launched the redesign of my brother-in-law's weblog, What Was I Thinking?

Stop on by and say, "hi!"

Projects - Raising the Line

Launched a new Typepad weblog, Raising the Line, for the folks at Universant.

Projects - Invisible Heart

Launched the redesign of the Invisible Heart site for economics professor Russell Roberts.

The entire site is powered by Movable Type, and pulls in feeds from both Typepad and a separate MT weblog using the indispensable Feed Digest service.

Project - Snobsite.com

Another one of our long time clients, Vanity Fair writer David Kamp, is releasing yet another Snob book (The Food Snob's Dictionary) and needed an update on his Snobsite.

With three books to post about, leaving everything in the traditional weblog format was just getting too confusing, both for readers and for him on the back end. We really did not want to abandon the ridiculous ease of updating the site via Movable Type, so we opted for a multi-blog format instead.

Each book's posts are broken out into a single column, only the excerpts of the most recent posts showing up on the main page. Different anchor class colors are also used to also keep surfers from getting lost in the sea of Snobbery.

Check out the books, they're highly entertaining. And for existing fans, the Snob Shop will soon include the long-awaited Snob Gear, so keep an eye out for that!

Projects - Roth & Company, P.C.

One of our oldest and dearest clients, Roth & Company, P.C. desired an updated look to their site and weblog, featuring their beloved "reflex blue." Toss in some interior photos from Des Moines, IA landmarks and presto!

Sleek, modern and eminently usable, this is one of our favorite redesigns.

Project - Vegetarian Organic Blog

Vegetarian Organic BlogLaunched the new look for Vegetarian Organic Blog for vegetarian newsletter author Amira Elgan.

Bright, fresh food-reminiscent colors, and a recipe-card like layout, make this blog site very easy on the eyes.

And If you're like me, and simply cannot give up your red meat, there's still plenty of useful and interesting tidbits to be found here.

Project - Pillar Data Blog

The nice folks at Pillar Data Systems, understanding the power of blogging for businesses as they do, are now setup on a fully customized Typepad weblog of their own.

Project - Bookgoblin

Launched the book review weblog Bookgoblin for writer Caitlyn Lyon.

Projects - 100 Word Stories

Launched the redesign of one of my very favorite sites, 100 Word Stories.

Originally conceived as a gimmick site (titled "100 Words or Les Nessman") in which participants had to post on the day's theme, or forfeit and provide a bit of Les Nessman trivia, the site has evolved into a serious writing exercise, featuring writers of various backgrounds and experience levels. We all have a fine time bouncing ideas off each other, some of us are more disciplined than others, and it makes for a highly entertaining read no matter who you are.

100 Words makes extensive use of Movable Type's flexibility in archive posting, even on the main page.

Projects - Peaktalk

Launched today the redesign of Peaktalk, one of our very first design clients. We appreciate all of you who keep coming back, thanks!

Projects - Publius Pundit

Projects - From ABBA to Zeppelin, Led

abba.gifLaunched a very interesting site for a group of economics professors, called From Abba To Zeppelin, Led: using music to teach economics. This site uses Movable Type with a wide variety of back-end customizations to make it easy for the eggheads to generate the specialized end-product format.

Plus, it's pretty.

Launched the new pharmacy--business-centric weblog for the New Jersey Star Ledger guys, Pharmalot.

Projects - TV Jersey

Launched the site for "the TV station New Jersey doesn't have" for the fine folks at the NJ Star Ledger: TV Jersey

Powered by a multitude of Movable Type weblogs (and handy-dandy plugins), this site can be managed quite easily by a single person. The site will feature themed contests and has a weekly listing of cool events in the area that will be video-worthy.

Every state could use a site like this, regardless of whether they have existing tv stations. User-generated content is where it's at, people.

Projects - Spice Is Life

Launched the Spice is Life food weblog.

Projects - Fred Graver.com

Launched the Movable Type powered blogsite for MTV/VH1 producer Fred Graver here at Fred Graver.com. Fred will be posting video and music selections of the day, so be sure to check him out.

On a site note...the more we wrangle MT's backend around, the more appreciative we are of how flexible and customizable it is. So don't be surprised if we suggest it to you when you contact us regarding your next site plan!

Projects - David Kamp.com

Launched the second blogsite for Vanity Fair writer David Kamp, in support of his new book, The United States of Arugula.

David's a vintage afficionado, so we cooked up a Western Union telegram knockoff for his look. For his rather complex navigation requirements, we harnessed Movable Type's powerful customization abilities into the site's backend. Every bit of content on the site is posted like a weblog entry, yet not all of it displays like a weblog. Nifty, huh? :)

Administrative: And We're Baaack!

Did you have a nice summer? We had a nice summer. Leaving out fhe fact that we live in Florida, and for us summer continues until about November....we played in the pool, visited the beach, and generally regressed with the help of our kids.

So now, we're back, and big things are on the horizon (which we'll detail a bit later) but for now we have to settle for announcing the launch of David Friend's blogsite, DavidFriend.net featuring his book Watching the World Change, an in-depth look at some of the photographs from the aftermath of 9/11.

fillip.gifLaunched the website for Anaheim mayor Curt Pringle. This is a prime example of a blogsite, a website that integrates a weblog as a simple-to-use and effective communication tool.

Search engine optimization tactics become relatively unnecessary when a weblog enters the mix, as Google, et al, are already highly interested in a site with a great deal of incoming and outgoing links.

Projects - IMAO

Launched the redesign of the popular blog IMAO.

As with so many of our weblog projects, this wasn't so much a 'redesign' as a 'reorganization'. The look was updated a bit but the real change is in how the various sidebar items are pulled in and organized. It should make for a faster and better surfing experience for Frank's visitors.

Projects - Woolwinders Update

Pardon me while I indulge in a brief pat on the back for myself and Robyn... The proprietors of Woolwinders informed us this week that sales from their online store have doubled since the redesign.

Go. Us.

Projects - Woolwinders

Woolwinders: A Knitting Salon redesign launched Saturday, January 3rd.

The main page of the site is now a weblog powered by Movable Type (of course) where they will post product updates and general store news. This is a fast growing trend with businesses (*cough*Sekimori) and one that just makes good sense. The blog interface is simple to use, even for techno-nulls, and gives shoppers more of a sense of interactivity since your average blog post is less formal than website content. Also, the comments are enabled so instant feedback is possible, always a big plus with end-users.

The shopping cart is powered by osCommerce, an open-source application. My general problem with os software is the poor documentation, and this app is no exception. There are very active user forums though and the beginnings of a pretty good wiki, so it's not completely hopeless. I was able to adequately customize the site to the clients' need without sacrificing too many chickens.

This was a team effort this time, Robyn handled the weblog and very nifty overall site design and I took on the nitty gritty of the shopping cart. This was my first experience with osCommerce...powder-ground teeth and new land-speed record for foul language aside, it is a robust app and will serve them well.

Next year I'll talk them into upgrading to Squirrelcart. Muwahahaha...

Projects - Spathic.com

Welcome to Spathic.com, our first weblog design using the blogging software pMachine.

pMachine is very interesting. It uses a combination of static templates, php includes and a mysql database to build pages on the fly, taking up quite a bit less room on your server than software that builds a permanent page for archive links. (Not that we're knocking MT, we're just saying.) The install and set-up was quick and easy and the interface is comprehensive and intuitive. A total noob might have some trouble figuring out which include affects which bit on his site, but the documentation is well written and easy to search.

Bottom line - an exceptional addition to the array of available blog tools. And hey, a little competition makes everyone stronger.
